Teachers' Tips:
Food is a major topic in Textbook 2. It is always fun and easy to talk about. The "Food Picture Dictionary" in Sections 8 - 11 introduces a lot of new vocabulary words. Many of the foods have the same name in English and Korean but the pronunciation is quite different. Make sure that you listen to students pronunciation and correct them if their speaking sounds less like English and more like Korean.
Each of the following Sections teaches one or two new groups of food. Fruit is the first, followed by Vegetables + Meats, Drinks + Condiments and finally Junk Food + Sweets. Section 12 will even teach the meal names Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, as well as some specific dishes such as Spaghetti and Salad.
There are Vocabulary Pages at the end of each section to help students keep track of all the new food names they are learning. There are even Food Flash Cards beginning on Page 36 of the textbook to practice with.
The 5 Components
1. Song Continue to play The Food Song to help study this section.
2. Interactive Video / Audio File This Video / Audio File and the ones in the three following sections practice the concepts of "these" and "those" and also "Do you like...?" "Yes, I like..." and "No, I don't like..."
In the videos, the characters Billy and Betty Beaver are asked if they like certain foods. It is clear in each picture whether or not Billy and Betty like the food on the table in front of them. Once students can correctly say "Yes, I like..." and "No, I don't like...", try pausing the video before Billy and Betty say their answer and have the students try answering themselves.
3. Textbook Activities Hold up the book in front of the class and ask "What are these?" and "Do you like...?" for every picture on the page. Go around the room and ask one student at a time.
Have students pair up, point at each picture and ask each other the same questions.
Have students come up to the front of the class and role play. One student asks the questions and the other one answers, then they can switch.
4. Classroom Activities Use the Flash Cards in Textbook 2. First Photocopy or scan the pages and print them out. Each student can have their own set of Flash Cards to practice with. You can also print out the Flash Cards from the Teachers Kit and hand out copies to the students. How about having students make their own Flash Cards? They can draw the pictures and write the names on them themselves.
There are limitless ways you can study with Flash Cards for the food sections. You could simply hold up the Flash Cards up and have students tell you what the foods are and whether or not they like them. You could organize Go Fish and Memory Games (There are instructions for how to play these games on Page 49 of Textbook 2) You can make up your own games.
5. Work Sheets Have students complete the Work Sheets, the Vocabulary Page and Bingo Game. How about having a Review Test at the end of each section to make sure that students are remembering what they are learning?

교재2권의 주제는 흥미로운 이야깃거리인 음식입니다. 섹션8에서 섹션11까지 나와있는Food Picture Dictionary에는 많은 새로운 단어들을 소개합니다. 많은 음식의 이름이 한국어와 동일하지만 그 발음에 있어서는 다소 차이가 있습니다. 학생들이 음식이름들을 말하게 하여 한국식 발음을 교정하여 줍니다.
이어지는 섹션에서는 음식을 한 두 그룹씩 종류별로 소개를 합니다. 과일, 야채와 고기, 음료와 조미료, 인스턴트 음식과 과자 이렇게 이어지며 섹션12에서는 아침, 점심, 저녁 그리고 스파케티나 샐러드와 같은 식사에 대해 소개합니다.
각 섹션의 후반부에는 학생들이 듣는 음식의 이름들을 숙지할 수 있도록 단어장이 준비되어있습니다. 교재 36페이지부터는 연습에 활용될 수 있도록 카드 또한 수록되어있습니다.
5단계 학습구성
1. 노래 The Food Song을 재생하여 본 섹션의 공부를 돕습니다.
2. 비디오 / 오디오 상호 학습 이번 파일은 "these"와 "those", "Do you like...?" "Yes, I like..." 그리고 "No, I don't like..."와 같은 문장 개념뿐만 아니라 한번에 세개의 섹션을 학습할수 있게 할 것입니다.
비디오에 등장하는 캐릭터인 Billy와 Betty 는 특정 음식을 좋아하는지 질문을 받습니다. Billy와 Betty가 탁자위의 음식을 좋아하는지 싫어하는지는 그림을 통해 미리 확인할 수 있으며 학생들이 "Yes, I like..."나 "No, I don't like..." 같이 대답을 할 수 있게 되면 캐릭터가 대답을 하기전에 비디오를 일시 정지하여 학생들이 스스로 대답할 수 있게 합니다.
3. 교재 활동 교재를 들어 책에 나온 그림들을 하나씩 짚어가며 학생들에게 "What are these?"나 "Do you like...?" 같은 질문을 합니다. 교실을 돌며 학생들에게 한명씩 질문을 합니다.
학생들이 짝을 지어 서로 질문하고 답하는 연습을 할 수 있게 합니다.
학생들이 교실앞에 나와 역할극을 하도록 지도합니다. 한 학생이 질문을 하고 다른 학생이 답변을 하도록 하며 바꿔서도 시행합니다.
4. 교실 활동 교재2권에 나온 플래시 카드를 사용합니다. 먼저 교재를 복사 하거나 스캔 후 출력을 합니다. 모든 학생들은 연습할 카드를 갖습니다. 선생님은. Teachers Kit에 나온 카드를 복사하여 학생들에게 분배할 수도 있으며 학생들이 스스로 카드를 만들도록 할 수도 있습니다. 학생들 스스로 그림을 그리고 이름을 적도록 지도해봅니다.
음식 섹션에는 공부할 수 있는 다양한 방법이 있습니다. 간단히 카드를 손에 들고 보여주며 이름이 무엇인지 묻고 좋아하지 물을 수 있습니다. 낚시 게임이나 기억력 게임을 할 수도 있습니다. (교재 2권 49쪽을 확인하면 이러한 게임의 방법이 나와 있습니다.) 또는 가능한 게임을 개발하여 시행할 수도 있습니다.
5. 워크북 학습 학생들이 워크북 학습의 연습문제, 단어장, 빙고게임을 모두 마무리 하게 합니다. 학생들이 배운 것들을 모두 충분히 인지하는지 확인하기위해 매 섹션이 끝날 때마다 Review Test를 해보는 것 또한 좋은 방법입니다.
