Teachers’ Tips:

The concept of the "Dining Room" is often difficult for Korean students to understand because there isn't a perfect translation for that word in the Korean language. You must explain to them that a dining room is a fancy room with the family's best furniture and silverware in it. We use these rooms on special occasions for eating together and celebrating. Often there are nice curtains, candles, a clock, books, a piano and a rug in a dining room.

The 5 Components

1. Song - Continue playing The House Song.

2. Interactive Video / Audio File - This page in the textbook introduces the concept of "these" and "those". Until this point we have only dealt with the singular "What's this?" Now we are dealing with multiple objects such as candles, flowers etc. The difference between "these/ those" and "this" can be expanded on in classroom activities, but first make sure that students grasp the concept of these/those in the Video / Audio Files and act it out in some role playing activities.

Continue to use the Video / Audio Files in any way that you can to make it challenging for students.

3. Textbook Activities - As in all of the other activities, hold up the book for the class and ask them "What's this?" and also "What are these?" for all of the objects in the picture. Interview them individually and have them practice with each other.

4. Classroom Activities - Continue to use Flash Cards and play Flash Card games to teach the objects and the rooms they are in.

You can expand on the "these/those" vs "this" lesson by having several objects on a table. Hold up one object and ask "What's this?" then hold up several objects and ask "What are these?" Have students come up one at a time and ask the questions.

"Dining Room"이란 주제는 한국학생들이 이해하기가 어려울수도 있습니다. "Dining Room"을 완벽하게 한국어로 번역할만한 단어가 없기때문입니다. 선생님께서"Dining Room"에 관해 이 방은 가장 좋은 집안의 가구들과 은제품들 등이 진열되있는 곳이라는 식으로 학생들에게 설명해주어야 할것입니다. 우리는 이 방을 특별한 행사때 가족들이 함께 식사를 하거나 축하하는 곳으로 사용합니다. 이 방 안에는 주로 예쁜 커튼이나 촛불, 시계, 책들, 그리고 피아노나 카펫들이 있습니다.

5단계 학습 구성

1. 노래 - 계속해서The House Song을 들려줍니다.

2. 비디오 / 오디오 상호 학습 - 이번 섹션은 "these"와 "those"를 소개하고 있습니다. 지금까지는 "What's this?"의 단수만을 다뤘습니다. 이제 candles, flowers등과 같은 복수를 다루게 될것입니다. "these/ those"와 "this"가 어떻게 다른지 학급활동을 통해 자세히 배우겠지만 먼저 학생들은these/those의 주제를 비디오 파일을 통해 이해하도록 연습해야 하고 비디오를 따라하면서 질문과 대답을 하는 역할극을 해보는것도 좋겠습니다.

계속해서 비디오 파일을 학습하며 학생들이 문장을 보지않고 스스로 얘기할수 있게 지도합니다.

3. 교재 활동 - 그림안의 모든 물건들을 가르키며 "What's this?" and "Where is the...?"라고 질문을하고 개인별로 그리고 짝과 같이 연습하게합니다.

4. 교실 활동 - 계속해서 플래시 카드를 사용해 게임을 통하여 각 물건들이 어느 방 안에 있는지 이번 섹션의 주제를 계속 인식하게 합니다.

책상위에 몇가지의 물건을 놓고"these/those" vs "this"를 학습시킬수 있습니다. 하나의 물건을 들어"What's this?"라고 질문을 하고 몇개의 물건들을 들어 "What are these?"라는 질문을 해보고 학생들도 질문을 해보게 합니다.

5. 워크북 학습 – 방안의 각 물건들을 색칠을 할수 있는 페이지와 빙고 게임 페이지가 있습니다.
