Teachers’ Tips:

The more students are forced to speak only in full sentences, the more automatic it will become for them.

Eventually, when asked "What color is the____?" they should think "The (object's name) is (color name).

This method of building grammar lessons into the questions and answers is the backbone of the Busy Beaver method. Students learn to substitute new words into phrases that they already know to expand their ability to communicate in English.

The song lyrics are always simple questions and answers that teach the material in the upcoming sections. The Color Song teaches "What's this?" "It's a book" "What color is the book?" "The book is red". These two questions and answers are repeated constantly in the upcoming sections. Students can remember the catchy words and melody of The Color Song and then plug their own words into those questions and answers, thus expanding on what they are already capable of saying.

The 5 Components

1. Song - Continue to play The Color Song as often as you like.

2. Interactive Video / Audio File - This Interactive Video / Audio File can be played as a game with a lot of different rules and ways of being played.

Here is one possibility. Divide the class into two teams. The video will ask "What's this?" At this point, pause the player and ask one student from one group to answer. After she has answered, un-pause the player to check if she answered correctly. If she did then that team gets a point.

Then the Video File will ask "What color is the...?" Pause the player before it shows what color the object is. Have a student from the opposite team say an answer. Un-pause the player again and check if she was correct. If she was correct then that team gets a point and the game is tied. Keep playing until the video is finished.

Of course, you can vary this game in many ways. Have one team answer all the questions and then switch. Or you can have one student versus the entire class. You can turn the volume down on the player and nominate one student or team to be the "Quiz-Master". Use your imagination and vary the difficulty of the game depending on the students’ skill level.

Using the Audio File: You can play a very fun game by pausing the Audio File and having students answer the questions. Apply the principles of the game explained above.

3. Textbook Activities - This sheet can be reviewed over and over. Students should now have the names of all of these objects memorized. Simply point to any object on the page and ask "What's this?" and then "What color is the...?" Of course, the students must respond in full sentences.

This activity can be used as a speaking warm-up, a game with any rules that you choose or a practice page for students to pair up and quiz each other.

4. Classroom Activities - The possibilities for Classroom activities are endless.

Have students make their own bingo game. Collectively they decide on the objects and their colors.

Tell the students what to draw and what color to draw it, then it becomes a listening exercise as well.

Use your imagination and make up any activity you like.

5. Work Sheets - These Work Sheets are aimed at teaching the students to recognize the way the color names are spelled. Have students color in the pictures on each page as well.

더 많은 학생들이 완전한 문장표현을 얘기할수 있도록 지도합니다.

이번 섹션을 공부한 후에 학생들에게 "What color is the____?" 질문을 했을때  "The (object's name) is (color name).  라는 식의 완전한 문장의 대답을 얘기할수 있을것입니다.

질문과 대답을 통한 문법 수업은 본Busy Beaver 교재의 핵심입니다. 학생들은 새로운 단어들을 이미배운 표현에 응용함으로써 영어표현능력을 증진시킬 수 있습니다. 

비지비버 송은 다음 수업내용을 가르칠 수 있도록 항상 간단한 질문과 대답을 활용한 가사를 사용합니다. ‘The Color Song’ 은 What's this?",  "It's a book",  "What color is the book?",  "The book is red" 과 같은 가사를 사용하며 이는 다음 수업내용에 반복적으로 나옵니다. 학생들은 쉬운 단어와 리듬으로 된 컬러 송을 익힘으로써 질문과 대답들을 자신의 단어을 활용할 수 있습니다. 이러한 방법으로 학생들은 표현력을 증진시킵니다.

5단계 학습 구성

1.    노래 - 계속해서The Color Song을 필요한 만큼 들려주세요.

 2. 비디오 / 오디오 상호 학습 - 이 게임은 게임하는중에 많은 다른 룰을 적용시킬수 있습니다.

비디오파일을 이용해 재미있는 게임을 할수있습니다. 학생들을 두 팀으로 나누고 비디오에서"What's this?"라고 질문을 하면 중지시킨다음 한팀의 한 학생을 지목해 대답을 하게 합니다. 그리고 비디오를 다시 재생시켜 그 학생이 말한 답이 맞는지 확인을 하고 만일 학생이 맞는 답을 얘기했다면 1점을 그 팀에게 줍니다.

그리고 비디오에서"What color is the...?"라는 질문이 나오면 마찬가지로 중지를 시킨후에 전에 질문했던 팀의 반대팀에서 학생한명을 지목해 대답을하게 합니다. 그런다음 비디오를 재생시켜 맞는 답을 얘기했는지 확인하고 만일 맞는 답을 얘기했다면 1점을 줍니다. 이런식으로 한팀 한팀 번갈아가며 문제를 내고 맞추는 식으로 비디오가 끝날때까지 게임을 할수 있습니다.

물론 선생님이 원하는대로 게임방식을 다르게 할수도 있습니다. 여러가지 방법으로 응용해보세요.

오디오 파일 활용: 오디오파일을 잠시 중단시키고 학생들의 대답을 유도함으로써  재미있는 게임을 진행할 수 있습니다. 위에 언급된 방식을 게임에 적용합니다.

 3. 교재 활동 - 본 교재는 반복해서 수업에 활용될 수 있습니다. 학생들은 모든 사물들의 이름을 알고있습니다. 간단히 교재에 나온 사물을 가리키며 "What's this?" 라고 묻고 "What color is the...?" 라고 묻습니다. 물론 학생들은 문장으로 대답하여야 합니다.

이러한 활동은 스피킹 준비활동으로 사용될 수 있으며 선생님의 규칙에 의한 게임이 될 수도, 학생들이 짝을 지어 서로 질문하는 연습이 될 수도 있습니다.

4. 교실 활동 – 학급내의 활동은 활용방도가 무한합니다.

학생들에게 자신만의 빙고게임을 만들게 합니다. 학생들이 모두 다함께 사물들과 색깔을 선택합니다.

학생들에게 무엇을 그려야 할지 무슨색을 채워야할지 말해주고 듣기 연습시간으로 활용할 수 있습니다.
